Recently I visited the studio of an artist who has moved into an assisted living situation. It was stuffed with piles of supplies and little treasures collected over a lifetime of creative expression. I felt honored to take a few things for my studio. It also made me decide not to wait to paint on the extra large canvas I have been saving for the right inspiration. I'm not going to force myself to use the pastel nubs up before I pick up that luscious new color. And when those bristles get stiff, that brush is history!
My artist life well lived means that I have played, experimented, failed, created and used up every bit of my supplies.
I hope that when my time comes to close up shop all that's left is a big pile of pastel dust on my paint splattered floor and the paintings that tell my story.
I felt lucky today to find a few useful free to a good home art supplies. But really the woman who created in that studio gave me something I really needed, a wake up call. What am I waiting for? Life is short, use that good brush!
