I love to experiment and a big part of my process is about giving myself permission to play. I use play in two fundamental ways: play as in testing techniques, materials, and methods and play as in just seeing where the paint takes me.
absolution
These paintings explore the gap between how you appear and who you are. They are about acceptance, ageing and letting go. Leaving behind my comfortable process and materials and stripping away my familiar palette and brushwork, I have examined what is left when a façade is lifted. The process has been a washing away of conventions and of seeing the fragments and traces of what remains - a stark and complex look at the imperfection of self. Each piece is made with acrylic ink on paper mounted on birch panels and coated with cold wax.
