“Real painters understand with a brush in their hand.”
- Berthe Morisot
I saw this quote while browsing the Pastel Journal, and I thought just what is a real painter?
Is it someone who doesn't have a day job?
Is it someone who lives in an unheated attic, eating bread crusts and reusing tea bags for a week?
Is it someone who suffers for art?
Is it someone who calls themselves an artist?
Is it someone who paints in a hyper realistic style, understood by most viewers?
Is it someone who is a classically trained oil painter?
I don't think it matters where you come from, what medium you use, how much money you have, or what you paint.
If you feel the urge to put brush to canvas (pastel to ground, sable to arches paper) you
are a real painter.
