Last week I changed my schedule for the Summer. I am breaking the time into two blocks: Summer Hours until the end of July and the August Intensive until Labor Day. On the podcast Happier, Gretchen Rubin suggests designing your Summer. I think this is a good idea for people who are self-employed. It can be hard to turn off work mode and the Summer can just pass you by. During the first block I am going to try not having a set schedule both on and off line. I will still be painting and sharing interesting art related things I come across - just posting less frequently. I am giving myself total permission to play. I hope to have at least one art adventure and I may even record a few videos and have a painting giveaway while I'm at it. For the second block, during the usually hot and sticky part of the Summer, I will focus on studio time.
Let me know if you design your summer and what kind of things you like to include.
As an artist giving myself permission to play is at the heart of my practice.
