I visited the studio of an artist who had become to infirm to work. Her family was selling supplies and treasures she collected over a lifetime of creative expression. I bought a few things and vowed to change my ways. I decided that I'm going to stop waiting. I'm going to paint on the canvas I have been saving for the right inspiration. I'm going to pick up that luscious new color. And when those bristles get stiff that brush is going straight to the trash. I am going to play, experiment and use up every bit of my supplies.
I hope that when my time comes to close up shop all that's left is a big pile of pastel dust on my paint splattered floor and the paintings that tell my story. Life is short, use the good brush.
As an artist giving myself permission to play is at the heart of my practice.
