colorful mixed media paintings

I am a painter inspired by what is around me, the mess in my kitchen, how the light hits the couch, and what or who I am worried about today. Sometimes it's a song I heard or something I read. I make paintings searching for connection and meaning in what I experience and remember. Over time my work has become less representational and more focused on emotion. I work fast and loose, experimenting and trying to catch the thread of what I am feeling so I can turn it over and really look at it, and hopefully save it, like a treasured souvenir.

About My PROCESS

I have always been focused on the experience of painting, the ritual the action of it. This focus drives most of my decisions as I add and subtract color, shape and pattern allowing the experience of painting to tell the story. I am a relentless and curious explorer. I give myself space to experiment, and permission to play. I let the painting lead, I go down rabbit holes and off on tangents. I approach my art  practice from the perspective of creative archaeologist meets forensic scientist meets dreamer. I make my paintings primarily in oil applied over an acrylic underpainting on canvas or paper. I may add charcoal and soft pastel as I go. I also work in watercolor, make drawings, use colored pencils and crayons. I cut things up to make new things.
